Festival Ballet stages ‘The Nutcracker’
Published December 10, 2006

The presence of dancers from Brazoria County will help make Festival Ballet’s 10th-anniversary production of “The Nutcracker” even more special this year.

Performances will be at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the San Jacinto College South Fine Arts Center, 13735 Beamer Road in Houston.

Audiences can enjoy the time-honored story by E.T.A. Hoffman of one very special night as every toy under the Christmas tree comes alive with all the splendor and merriment of the season. The production features magnificent costumes and spectacular sets — including a tree that grows tall and falling snow that blankets a Nutcracker wonderland.

This “Nutcracker” production is very special, as it will include some of the most promising young dancers from the greater Houston area, including many from Brazoria County that have roles in Festival Ballet’s production. Festival Ballet member and Angleton resident Danielle Phelps will perform the role of Clara.

Festival Ballet is a performing semi-professional ballet company with locations throughout the Houston area including Lake Jackson.

As an independent not for profit 501 c-3 arts organization, its mission is to enlighten and entertain audiences with classical and contemporary presentations, provide performance experience for advanced level ballet students and encourage and promote the art of dance in our community.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at (832) 830-5987, or online at www.festivalballet.info.
